So...finally have these things going...hopefully I'm using them correctly
Brewery of the Week: Renegade Brewing Co
February 10, 2014
Beer and an awesome food truck. Did that get your attention? Good, because that’s exactly what you will find when you head to Renegade. Moreover, you will also find a brewery that is pushing to innovate with every brew in their lineup and doing so with increasing success. That isn’t to say that Renegade is trying to be overly contemporary in their beers, rather they are taking classic styles and giving it their own spin to make something entirely unique.
One of the few things I miss about living in Baker is having this place within a 10 minute walk of my house (I don’t miss being woken up by techno-mariachi at 3 am or the wall that was slowly falling off the house we were renting…). Renegade’s tap room is another place that feels like home to me, and my trip there this week was as relaxed and positive as ever. I really appreciate that that this is a brewery that prides itself on not having TV’s in the taproom. Instead you will find good music, huddled tables and board games. There are few social outings that can beat a game of Catan, something tasty from the arepas truck and a solid pint of Redacted with some good friends.
Now, on to the beer lineup. As mentioned before Renegade isn’t afraid to branch out and try something different on a regular basis, which is more often than not a pleasant surprise. The words “Imperial” and “Coffee” are in frequent use with more than one offering on their taps at any given time, often in conjunction with each other. Brewing with coffee can be a delicate process at best and far too often ends disastrously, but Renegade has perfected its use in the Imperial Sunday Morning (which I is also great for breakfast….I dare you not to buy a growler and try it). Redacted Rye IPA is what Renegade is best known for in Denver (Some of you probably knew it by its former name of Ryeteous until some jerk got all legally on them. Not cool buddy, not cool) I’m glad to see their flagship beer in cans now as well as a few of my other favorites like the 5:00 afternoon ale.
Renegade is and probably always will be one of my favorite places in Denver. All aforementioned reasons aside, when it gets down to it I know that I will always be able to have a great pint or two and a good conversation when I go there. I suggest you go soon so you can do the same.
