So...finally have these things going...hopefully I'm using them correctly
Bomber of the Week: Ruination IPA by Stone Brewing
March 16, 2014
Now that I have passed my latest professional nerd certification, I’m happy to be able to get back to posting some beer related goodness on the blog (hooray for me for being a good kid and making that thar book lernin’ a priority!) I had been keeping myself in check with my beer intake this week to ensure that my studying was not done in vain, and to celebrate the fruits of that willpower I decided to reward myself with a bomber of one of my all time favorite IPA’s.
With Ruination IPA, Stone Brewing has been able to find that rare harmony in having a very hop-centric beer that also allows the flavors and subtleties of the malts to come through nicely. As any true IPA fan can tell you, there is more than just one kind of “hoppiness”. In the case of Ruination, the hops that are used give a distinct flavor of citrus, while still retaining enough bitterness to keep your tongue in check (that’s right tongue, thats what you get for mouthing off…)There is also a presence of the unique malt used in Ruination towards the back of the pallet, something that is lost to the flavor of the hops in a great many IPA’s today.
Personally, I find this beer is best left to shine on its own without the distraction of food or other libations. That being said, I do know a few folks who enjoy this one with some good fish or chicken so its up to you to decide how you will best enjoy it. As previously mentioned this is an IPA that holds a high place in my list. If you haven't already tried it, I recommend picking up a bomber and be prepared to have an existential hop experience.
