So...finally have these things going...hopefully I'm using them correctly
Brewery of the Week: Wynkoop Brewing Co
March 19, 2014
Denver is a city of icons. Our sports teams are part of the regular vernacular of every major sports network, we are known for having statues of giant blue animals near our major city facilities (some of which have glowing red eyes and will possess you with the soul of Viggo the Wicked if you stare at it too long….take a drink of you know what movie and statue that is referencing). Of course we have some iconic breweries within our city limits as well. One such icon is Wynkoop Brewing, one of the long standing pinnacles of the Denver craft beer community.
All of the beers offered at Wynkoop speak to the level of experience and care that can be found in this brewery. The Silverback Pale Ale is probably the best known of Wynkoop’s offerings, and is a prime example of the level of quality and consistency that comes with most everything you will find on tap here. The Wixa Weiss is also one of my favorite wheat beers, in part for the unique spicy quality it has that isn’t found in the majority of wheat beers out there. My personal favorite from Wynkoop is the Colorojo Imperial Red Ale which is in fact now available in cans at many a local store (Hooray for distribution!)
One of the great things about Wynkoop is the plethora of options on how you choose to enjoy your pint while there (Hefe….what is a plethora? Again, take a drink if you know the movie quote) I am a big fan of both the pool tables upstairs and the outdoor seating, but if you so choose you can also sit down for some food or have a pint or two before hitting the comedy club in the basement. The environ is also quite uplifting and jovial, case–in–point the giant gorilla sculpture or the great big sign for a certain co-founder of the brewery that is now the Governor of Colorado. I highly recommend stopping by Wynkoop if you are in the ballpark area or anywhere in downtown for that matter, and experience what this icon has to offer.
