So...finally have these things going...hopefully I'm using them correctly
Brewery of the Week: Black Sky Brewery
March 28, 2014
For months the anticipation built every time I drove down Sante Fe. What I had thought was an abandoned building with great art on the side had a banner announcing Black Sky was coming. Finally, after all the waiting and watching Black Sky opened their doors for business. I am glad that finally having stopped by as all of the lofty expectations I had were well founded.
Black Sky makes an impressive and successful effort in creating beers with ingredients that compliment the flavors you would expect from the standard offerings in each section. The chocolate mint pistachio stout was surprisingly balanced and satisfying, especially as a dessert following some hearty pizza. I also strongly recommend the Petal to the Metal, made with rose and hibiscus (I dare you to say it sounds like a girly beer, come at me bro!) I found the choice of stouts on the beer menu a nice surprise as well; providing a good counterpoint to the IPA heavy selections of some other breweries.
The atmosphere inside Black Sky is just plan awesome (and looks a hell of allot like my bedroom when I was in high school) As soon as you walk in you know that you are in a metal brewery, with pictures of some heavy hitters of the metal world adorning the walls and corrugated sheet metal providing an extra layer of awesome. The fact that the characters from one of the best animated shows of all time are gracing the outside wall gives Black Sky unwavering respect as far as I’m concerned. These guys also make a mean pizza, so I recommend showing up hungry as well. There is allot of potential at this up and coming new brewery, and everyone should go experience some good pizza, some great beer and some good old fashioned metal.
Recommended Beers: Petal to the Metal, Demonseed IPA
