So...finally have these things going...hopefully I'm using them correctly
Bomber of the Week: Third Base Belgian Style Tripel by Elavation Beer Co
May 27, 2014
As with most beers from Elevation Beer Co, this seasonal offering was something that I held to a high standard the moment I saw it. This brewery has earned a reputation with my fellow beer nerds and I for consistently exceeding expectations. Any opportunity to try a seasonal beer by a brewery of such pedigree is something I couldn’t ignore. The tasteful label and champagne cork beckoning, I decided that Third Base was the perfect bomber to reward myself for feeling better (am I milking the whole being sick thing? Why yes self I am, deal with it).
Third base is a deceiving mistress to say the least. Pouring this beer, one might think it is a pilsner by the crisp, clean golden color that appears. That beautiful color gives way to the bright yeasty taste and aroma that is the signature of a proper Belgian style beer. This tripel also has a strong fruity quality, making it a more refreshing and almost sessionable beer. A testament to the quality of Third Base (and the knowledge of it brewers by proxy) is the crisp taste of this beer, lacking the cloying aspects often found in even this most notorious of Tripel’s.
The Belgian styles of beer are often the most difficult to perfect. Tripel’s in particular are often the victim of poor brewing and insufficient planning. Third base is most certainly the counterpoint to those brews. This beer offers a near perfect combination of color, flavor and aroma without allowing any one of those aspects to overpower the rest of the beer. This is a bomber worth picking up while it is available, especially if you need a reason to find out what Elevation Beer Co can do.
