So...finally have these things going...hopefully I'm using them correctly
Brewery of the Week: Mountain Toad Brewing
July 19, 2014
On a recent trip to Golden, I was curious as to whether the home of Coors would have anything compelling to offer that didn’t come from the big evil looking factory in town. While expecting to find a limited offering at best, I was pleasantly surprised to be referred to Mountain Toad Brewing; A place in downtown Golden that re-affirmed that good beer is often the result of people who are focused on making their brewery part of the community.
Stepping through the doors of Mountain Toad, I was immediately enticed by the pints everyone had in hand. The beer list at Mountain Toad leans towards a more hop focused style of brewing while still maintaining a breadth of options to appease any pallet. The Ryrish Stout was particularly good with notes of chocolate that complimented the unique tastes imparted by the rye as well as the nutty and semi sweet qualities one would expect of a well made stout. The Lemongrass Saison was also fantastic with a complex fruity taste that was refreshing and well balanced.
The atmosphere in Mountain Toad is one of the friendliest and most familial I’ve ever encountered. Everyone in the brewery, staff and fellow customers alike, greeted me with a smile and a friendly word to say, I even happened into a friend whom I hadn’t seen in some time. The outdoor patio seemed to punctuate this feeling of community, with dogs and kids playing while their parents had a pint or two much as one might find at a family gathering in someone’s backyard (without your creepy uncle telling you stories about his road trip in 1986 to Cleveland…). For those of you in the Golden area, or anyone who is looking for a good place to sit and have a good beer after a hike in that region, I strongly recommend Mountain Toad for great beer, awesome people and a downright pleasant experience.
