So...finally have these things going...hopefully I'm using them correctly
Brewery of the Week: Yak and Yeti Restaurant and Brewpub
August 18, 2014
One of the best things in the world is the combination of good food and beer. When patronizing establishments that are both breweries and restaurants one often finds the same fair of pizza and burgers, and while this doesn’t necessarily mean that the food will be bad it does mean that more frequently than not the experience will be predictable. I am an advocate of pairing beer much as one would with wine which allows for a swath of possibilities for beer and food to complement each other. Given this, I had an added layer of excitement for my first trip to Yak and Yeti and the promise of something truly different.
The reputation of having unique and tasty beer is well earned for this brewbub. It is clear that the beer has been created with the food it will be served with in mind. Specifically, the brewers at Yak and Yeti have used ingredients found in or inspired by the curry based dishes on their menu; the result f which is absolutely fantastic. I was particularly taken back by the Chai Milk Stout which has a perfect balance of chai spice and lactose (that's the sugar found in milk...hence the "Milk" part of milk stouts). The Himilayan IPA was also fantastic delivering a floral and complex taste.
The atmosphere at Yak and Yeti was as unique as the beer that was served, both in terms of the the locale and the food. The location inside a repurposed house allows for much more initimate and familial dining experiences. The food is just as good as the beer and is some of the best Indian cuisine I have had in Denver. The Lamb Vindaloo went particularly well with the Namaste pilsner and for those of you who are into less spicy curry, the Chicken Tiki Masala was also pretty swell.
I am officially hooked on everything Yak and Yeti has to offer, most imprtantly of course their fantastic and unique beers. If you are willing to make the trip to experience it yourself I assure you, you won't be dissapointed.
