So...finally have these things going...hopefully I'm using them correctly
Brewery of the Week: The Brew on Broadway
October 20, 2014
Over the past year, I have set the goal of trying at least one new brewery each week in the Denver area. Motivations for this goal aside, the outcome has often been finding places that combine unique and clever items with the culture and process of craft brewing. Most of these combinations have been focused on the beer itself and flavors that can be included therein. Having found this type of combination to be the exception rather than the rule, I was refreshed to find the combinations made at the Brew on Broadway a truly unique and enjoyable experience.
In truth I was somewhat hesitant about what the pints would offer at the BoB (yes, they actually call their brewery the BoB. Bonus awesome points for that) Despite the potential for energies and attention to be split by the BoB’s unique approach to brewing (more on that in a moment) every pint was excellent and on par with the best that Denver has to offer. In particular, the Social Club Coffee Milk Stout had a perfect blend of the bitter and savory elements and the lactose based sweetness that one would expect from a proper milk stout. The Cinderella’s Evil Wet Twin Sisters Double IPA was also memorably fantastic, with a strong floral element from being dry hopped that doesn’t overpower the contributions of the malts in this brew.
The atmosphere of the BoB is straight out of a mid-nineties coffee shop (I kept expecting to see Mike Meyers making a joke about the size of the cups in the corner). This is due in part to the fact that Brew on Broadway is just that: they are a full-fledged coffee shop in addition to a brewery. This could have easily come across as disjointed or tacky false nostalgia; but in practice it works perfectly. I found that this coffee house environ made the entire establishment feel comfortable relaxed and welcoming. Being in this jovial place with good friends it was all too easy to stay and have a few good laughs over a few even better pints. I plan to make this another of my regular haunts for both a good latte and a good pint and if you stop in for wither I’m sure you will as well.
