So...finally have these things going...hopefully I'm using them correctly
Makin’ Awesome: A look at what’s in store for the blog in 2015…
January 2, 2015
Welcome back to the blog everyone! I hope that all of you had a fantastic New Year’s Eve/day and were able to have a great pint with even better people to start 2015. Since last night seems to have treated me kindly in that I was able to go to work today without feeling like my skull would erupt (though admittedly I feel like I’m at least 10 points lower than my normal IQ) it is a good opportunity for me to post a few of the things I’d like to do blog-wise in the coming year.
These aren’t by any means New Year’s resolutions, rather a list of things that I think will reflect some changes I will be making personally this year and beyond. I need to get a little personal crap out of the way before we look at all the fun stuff, so feel free to skip the rest of this paragraph if you like (seriously, it’s about to get semi heavy and rant like folks, don’t say I didn’t warn ya). As many of you know, the blog was started as a mechanism of therapy for me to deal with no longer having the person I love most in my life. It continued to be an avenue for me to keep beer and brewing as the positive forces they have been for me while working through all of the other trials that life chose to throw at me throughout 2014. I largely took a break from the blog in December to focus on the holidays, professional development and a few other happy occurrences; and during that time I had a chance to reflect on the changes in the blog and myself. Long story short, this may have started as a life jacket, but it is now a trophy of my survival. And it’s because I’ve survived that I think it’s time to celebrate with allot more of all things beer.
So what might those things be? Well, let’s take a look at all of the awesome I’m about to throw at you on here:
Thinkin’ Beer: I am going back for my masters in about a week so that means homework midterms and lectures (all of which I actually enjoy because I’m a nerd). All of this deep thinking will also require a good beer with which to ponder. This will be a little bit like the Bomber of the week with some other random crap thrown in there to keep things interesting. More on that when the first Thinkin’ Beer post arrives.
More Trips Abroad: My journeys to London and Munich were some of the best experiences of my life, and I have set a personal requirement to travel to a new place at least once a year. So far the leading candidates are Reykjavik and Sao Paulo (That’s right Elias and Carolina, I’m looking your direction) but this might change based on all the things that need to fall into place for a trip to happen. Wherever I end up, there will be a hunt for local beer and breweries and plenty of picture candy for you all to enjoy.
Homebrew 101: I’ve really enjoyed putting up some brewing knowledge and the feedback I have received in response. The basics of homebrewing will continue to be a staple in this series of posts in addition to tips and tricks for specific beer types and flavors.
Breweries and Bombers of the Week: Of course these won’t be going away any time soon. I will keep trying to find new and awesome stuff to share with you but with these I would also like to start highlighting more recommendations from y’all as well. This means of course that if you have found something blog worthy, you should let me know (for cereal, it’s ok to tweet me and junk).
Contests out the Wazoo: Everyone likes winning stuff, and it just so happens I like giving stuff to the folks who read the blog so that works out! I’m going to figure out some other nifty ways to give you some awesome beer stuff every month, so keep reading for your chance to win!
Other Random Crap: One of the good things about a blog is you can put pretty much whatever you want on it (Case-in-point……ramekin). If there is other stuff that is blog worthy, you better believe I’m going to put it on here.
All of this should make for a pretty awesometastic blog year, and I’m really happy that y’all will be a part of it. So, go crack your first beer of 2015 make your own list of non-resolutions and let’s get ready for an awesome year. Cheers everyone!
