So...finally have these things going...hopefully I'm using them correctly
Brewery of the Week: FERMÆNTRA
June 8, 2015
During one of the few respites from the rain that we’ve had recently I like many others went in search of a place where I could enjoy a good beverage in the warming weather. I had also been planning to hang out with some good friends over a pint, so of course combining this with a search for someplace to hang out was a perfect fit. Over the past few months several new breweries have been brought to my attention by friends and peers, but one in particular had made it to the top of the short list. There were a few things making this new brewery interesting, the cool name, the close proximity to my house, but most importantly the fact that not one person who had recommended it had anything less than a stellar opinion about it. This led my good friends Kevin, Sarah and I on a sunny afternoon trip to the neighborhood near the DU campus to see if FERMÆNTRA lived up to the hype
Perusing the menu behind the bar, I was pleasantly surprised with the variety of beer that was offered. While most breweries focus on German, English or Belgian styles with relative exclusivity, FERMÆNTRA has a smattering of all of these and a few more allowing for near every beer pallet to be satisfied. I was particularly impressed with the Amalgam, which true to its name is a combination of American pale ale malts and hops and lager yeast. The Redolent Belgian Style Blonde was also exceptionally good (which given my aversion to wheat beers in most variants is saying something). The folks joining me had a few of the other offerings, all of which had different but delicious qualities.
The atmosphere of FERMÆNTRA was perfect for a group gathering like this. The open front allowed for the fresh air and sunlight to permeate the taproom. The brick walls adorned with highly textural art and high table tops were exuding the fun and care free environ that is found in much of the rest of the campus neighborhood (with a significant reduction in the amount of clownshoes in Izod shirts and the use of the phrase “word, bra”) Add to this a staff behind the bar that was friendly, knowledgeable and willing to spend a few minutes getting to know us despite the crowd, and it makes for an all-around solid beer experience. I know that on another sunny day sometime soon I will be back to FERMÆNTRA to try their latest concoctions, and I hope that all of you will do the same. Cheers Everyone!
