So...finally have these things going...hopefully I'm using them correctly
The best month of the year: A look at what’s to come in October
October 2, 2015
Welcome to the start of the best part of the year everyone! This month marks the long overdue arrival of the cool temperatures of fall, the crispness in the morning air that comes with it and two of the best holidays of the year (yes two…think about it). It also means that we can now drink all of the fall seasonal beers that abound in this time. This is also an opportunity to make up for some items intended previously for the blog, and have a little fun writing posts about taking advantage of all the aforementioned fall pleasantries. So, grab a pint and let’s take a look at what this month has in store for y’all:
So….last month there was supposed have a contest. That didn’t happen. To be honest, I fully blame being the most boring person in Las Vegas for a week (for serious…I was there to do some serious nerding) and the subsequent catching up when I returned. Excuses aside, I still very much want to make that happen, and intend to do so in the next week or two. The only hint I’ll drop for now is that it will be another one requiring creative flair, but the prize will certainly be worth the effort if you are willing to put it in. More on that soon.
October of course means Oktoberfest and all of the awesome and cheesy things that entails. It also means that we are awash in Marzenbier and other fall lagers associated with the holiday, some more deserving of their titles than others. I will be selecting a handful of the most promising ones I can find and provide a full report. There are a few names on my list so far, but I’m always receptive to new suggestions, so if there are any that you at there want to see on the blog, feel free to let me know.
Brew Photo Post
This month will see at least one brewing effort on my part, this time with a little help from some friends. We will be employing quite a few of the techniques and concepts from the most recent Homebrew 101 posts, so if you haven’t already feel free to give them a read and learn a few pointers. As the title suggests, this post will be more photos then commentary, which I hope will be nifty for you all.
In an effort to add a little variety to the weekly brewery explorations, I’ve decided to explore some of the brewers creating concoctions other than beer. Ciders, Kombocha’s and other unique libations are quickly becoming part of the Denver scene, and I would be remise not to discover what they have to offer. I’m looking forward to sharing what I find with y’all and getting to know some of the other unique brews coming from our city.
Pumpkin Beers and Other Halloween Shenanigans:
As we get closer to Halloween, I will be amassing my collection of pumpkin brews to enjoy on and near that special evening. Of course, I will be needing to do some quality control along the way. I’ll be sharing these taste tests in the form of reviews and more general Thinkin’ Beer posts to help you navigate your own way down the litany of brews made with our favorite squash.
I am also trying a few new things behind the scenes to avoid the long breaks in posts going forward, so you guys can look forward to some sweet sweet reading candy all month long. Looking forward to all of the awesome beer and shenanigans I’ll be sharing with you all. Ok folks, it’s time to finish my evening beverage and go to bed like a good kid. Cheers everyone!
